Summary Review
Using the tire size P215/60R15 92V, let's review what all the numbers and
letters mean.
The P means passenger car tire in P-metric sizing. This is not a light
truck application tire with load range C or better.
The 215 is the cross section or widest point in the casing measured in
millimeters.
The 60 is the Aspect Ratio of the tire. The sidewall height of this tire is
60% of its measured section width.
No, the R does not mean rubber or race. It is a radial ply construction
tire. The casing plies are laid out radially to the center of the tire.
The 15 is the diameter of the wheel, in inches, that the tire is to be
mounted on.
The 92 is the load index. Refer to the load index chart of a tire guide and
you will find the maximum load carrying capacity of this tire to be 1389
lbs.
The V is the speed symbol or speed rating of this tire. In terms of speed,
this tire is designed to go a maximum of 149 mph.
And finally, the 92V is called the Service Description. That is the load
index and speed rating together.
